After a morning exploring some of LA's old buildings my two friends and myself went into Cole's to have a beer and check out the historic restaurant. The bartender, upon seeing our interest in the place, gave us a tour, spending quite a bit of time with us pointing out items of historical interest. After our tour, we sat in the bar nursing our beers, and did not see any `drunkards, slurring, cursing and throwing menacing looks`, as referred to in a previous post. In fact, everyone in the bar was quite friendly. We did not plan on eating lunch there, based on the negative comments in the same post: `The beef ... looked and tasted as if it had been sitting under its heat lamp for two weeks, and the same can be said for the macaroni and cheese`. However, upon inspecting the food, it actually looked quite good. I had a corned beef on rye sandwich. I was served a huge portion of corned beef, which was very lean and tasty. My two friends had a meatloaf dinner and a roast beef sandwich, and both said that their meals were quite good. While Cole's is definitely in a bad section of town, once inside the restaurant, it is really quite enjoyable. Based on our experience, I would say that the food is not great but good, and the prices are not cheap but fair. All in all, a good experience.
