  VISITOR REVIEW

It is difficult to describe just how good last night's meal at Dante and Luigi's was, so I'll tell you that I took my leftovers home and woke up four times last night to happily think of the little box in the fridge containing the fetuccini in gravy with meatballs and sausage that I forced myself to stop eating so that I could experience the spumoni. I woke up at 6 a.m. and ate the remains of the best Italian meal I have ever eaten in Philadelphia (don't worry Grandmom, you're still the best in Reading). My husband had the eggplant parm appetizer...YOU MUST EXPERIENCE THIS YOURSELF! I only have 2000 words in this review, so I tell you only that it is a life-affirming experience. The service was excellent. The atmosphere and the gravy and pasta have been unspoiled by the last few decades of `fusion` Italian food...i.e. trendy sauce--it would be blasphemey to call it gravy--with excessive garlic and basil...and sauce portions so small you end up eating half your pasta naked unless you ASK for extra sauce. At Dante and Luigi's you are treated to a MEAL with little extras that make you feel like you're at gradma's such as the water carafe for the table and the saran wrap around your left over box (so that the precious gravy isn't lost). I ended my meal with spumoni and a little prayer to thank God that Marco Polo had the guts to go to China and discover noodles. Please try this place...you won't be sorry. It's the best real-deal Italian food in Philadelphia. Also, you must see the bartender. He is the sweetest man! Next time, I will get the ribbon pasta in marinara with meatballs, sausage and the eggplant parm appetizer (to ensure that I have enough for the next day's breakfast!). Please get a side of pasta with gravy or marinara with your entree...trust me. Also, D&L's has the best meatballs in Philly.
