I'm glad I read your review. I was considering going there (and may still) but will avoid the prix fixe option. I also requent a lot of restaurants and am often asked for recomendations and I will relay this information to whomever asks.- Is follow up to post by scott6 ...
After reading rave reviews of Le Gourmand for years, I finally went last week, as a splurge with my daughter and son-in-law. I agree that the food, ambiance and service are outstanding. However, I felt a little "cheated" when I received my bill for three. After analyzing my feelings and trying to be objective, I come up with these criticisms: the single option of an expensive prix fixe is the overall problem, especially when one course is a very small, unimpressive salad. One course of the 3 should be a dessert. Portions are very small, even for a French restaurant. Rack of lamb contained three small rib chops on the pool of sauce. One side dish for 3 of us contained the potatoes and vegetable - lots of Swiss chard and 3 very small new potatoes one had to look for. The expensive desserts were modest in portion: tiny scoops of sorbet, a tiny scoop of ginger ice cream on the apple cake. I have no idea what the two glasses of wine cost, but my bill was $170, necessitating a large tip. I've eaten in relais-chateaux dining rooms in France itself, and felt treated to a more sumptious meal, and not resented the price. I would bet that the chef-manager's profit margin here is larger than that of other comparable restaurants in Seattle. -- 5/1/2002 10:46:37 PM
