Fabulous food, pleasant service, great view (at the temporary 100 Brannan Street location). I was put off at first thought--my husband and I were visiting from Chicago and had a 7:45 p.m. reservation on a Thursday night. We met some friends unexpectedly in town and asked if they would like to join us. However, Slanted Door could NOT up our reservation from 2 people to 4--not until 9:45 p.m. I thought that was just ridiculous--but after waiting about 45 minutes and sitting at 4 barstools for dinner (instead of waiting for a table!) it was made clear why we had to wait so long! The food was magnificent, complex spices paired with simple ingredients (the shaking beef and the seared Ahi were tops) that were out of this world. The Chef/owner got wind that we couldn't up our reservation from 2 to 4 people, and he was very nice, he comped a wonderful salad and tea for us. In all, our bill for 4 people, including 4 beers and a martini was only $120! I think the pricing was wonderful, considering the quality of food and the wonderful service. I don't know how anyone could say it was `pricey.` Overall, I would highly recommend Slanted Door, and I will go back time and time again when in San Francisco!
