I recently moved to England from California and all I keep wishing for is a tommy's chili cheeseburger. Everyone that I know is asking if iI can make this chili and of course the answer is `NO!` Which *isn't very good because it is better then the food over here. Nothing compares to it. The Original Tommy's (at the corner of Rampart and Beverly) is an incredible dining experience. While I have rated Tommy's as a "10", don't mistake this for saying that it is a place to go for a formal date. No seating, no tables, you stand at the counter and eat the most incredible (and messy) chili burgers, tamales, and fries on the planet. Since just after WWII, Tommy's has been serving Tommyburgers 24 hours a day. While there is *always* a line (even at 3 a.m.), service is very fast. All burgers are made to order. The most crowded times are after Dodger baseball games and USC football games. After the Academy Awards ceremony there will be people pulling up in limosines and in formalwear eating Tommyburgers (well, if the tux is a rental . . .). Last time I checked, double chili cheeseburgers were $2.30, and fries were less than a buck. Drinks are Pepsi products (in cans). As far as fast food places go, Tommy's has excellent prices, great food, a unique atmosphere, and fast, reliable service. Beware of imitators, (watch the spelling of "Tommy's") stick with the original. -- 4/2/1996
