Maybe it's this 'Restaurant Week' thing. I've heard so much about San Domenico over the years I finally dragged my husband there last night. And what a drag it was. The mini-cannelloni was the same that I buy at Fairway with 'Jerry's sauce' from Zabars, which is great but at home it's more plentiful and of course much cheaper. My husband's halibut was good but nothing special, no vegetables or accompaniment except a tiny bit of green tomato relish or sauce. And my pork medallions were B O R I N G. Really really boring. I would never serve such a inadequate plate of pork, even our local coffee shop does a better job. The artichoke it came with was cold and bland. There was less than a spoonful of sauce which was supposed to be prunes or some fruit. Perhaps one has to get the $26 pastas to be wowed. We could not get our waiter, ever, and I finally got up and waited outside when the check would not come after 15 minutes. (A minion, not our waiter, did say 'sorry'.) The only good thing was the baba rhum. I don't understand how this chef can have rave ratings. A big disappointment all round... (and 'restaurant week' prices are a joke: our check was over $80 with only 1 glass of wine for me.
