I love this restaurant more and more every time I come back. I started makign the trip over teh hill every now and again started in 1999, after not having gone since the early 1990s. The food is wonderful, not traditional Szechwan, but influenced with tinges of French and American cuisines. Rosemary potatoes and candied cashews are well worth the trip alone, but the subtle and tender beef dishes, the hugely flavourful noodle dishes, the wonderful openers, the fantastic smoked chicken entrees and a wine list that seems to have been engineered to specifically enhance the meals. The list isn't huge, but every one fits nicely with a specific portion of the menu. I would suggest starting with the starteers they bring out, as they are probably the best things you'll find on the whole menu. Wheat Gluten in chili sauce and fried tofu dishes are wonderful, and there is nothing on the trays they bring around that isn't at least very good. All in all, it is a great place for a quiet dinner with someone special, the decore is rather romantic, or for several people to get together for a long meal of wine, conversation and sharing top notch food. Out of the 50+ Chinese restaurants I've been to in and around San Jose/Santa Cruz, O'mei is easily the best.
