I grew up in Bayville and now live in Maryland. There is no food that compares with the Souvlaki made here. Must be eaten with the red sauce - that I haven't been able to find anywhere else although I have looked hard. My family once had ingreds shipped to PA to make for a holiday get together. Was once open 24 hrs. Heard about it recently on the food channel when they where showing how to make gyros...mentioned a souvlaki stand on the north shore of LI by the beach as the best in the world. Must have been these. The key is the core of lamb that is on the spit is the same one from when origianlly opened before the 1970's at least. Hope they never close.
