On a street jumping with new and used clothing boutiques, gift shops, cafes, and hip, trendy folks of all ages; a new Northern Indian restaurant has entered the scene: Surya.
The restaurant has an open, warm atmosphere with high ceilings and hardwood floors. Large colorful Indian photographs adorn the brushed orange walls and white linens dress each table.
The food is Northern Indian fare and Sheel, the owner, takes pride in selecting only the best spices and freshest ingredients. Sapna, a charmingly beautiful Indian woman draped elegantly in a colorful sari, welcomes you inside.
Once seated, Pappadam, a wafer thin East-Indian Bread made of lentil flour, is promptly served alongside two chutneys: mint and tamarind. Enjoy these sweet and spicy contrasts while pondering choices like Fish Tikka Kebab: sea bass marinated in spices and cooked in the Tandoori oven, Bara Kebab: Rack of New Zealand lamb marinated in rosemary, ginger, and spices, Began Bharta: baked eggplant cooked with onions, tomatoes, and ginger or Dal Makhani: dal with rajma (kidney) beans simmered with chunky tomatoes.
If you are vegetarian, fear not. Surya has plenty of flavorful specialties – a favorite is the Vegetable Masala: an array of vegetables cooked in a masala cream sauce.
The restaurant serves both wine and beer, but try a perfectly spiced Chai served in a big latte cup, or a refreshing Mango Lassi.
