For me, Uncle Sam's is the embodiment of a love/hate
relationship. Sometimes I wonder why I put up with the service (time and time again).
But then ... aahh ... the cheese-steak with sautéed mushrooms and onions -- and I
understand completely ...
The food is east of the Mississippi, north of the Mason-Dixon line, big city, mom & pop,
pizza, grinders and wings type stuff. You know, to die for and from cuisine. Prices are
in line with food quality and the bathrooms are clean!
The dining room is small, and I'm not crazy about the booths and tables (neither inside or
out), but the food generally keeps the place quite busy. Go to Uncle Sam's and try the
sausage on your pizza, have a cheese-steak and some hot wings then get a pitcher of beer
or a carafe of wine.
But as I mentioned about service: If you choose take out from Uncle Sam's, I advise you to
check your order before leaving and make sure it's yours! Yes, at times I've seen a waitress
smile, but couldn't escape the feeling that she was laughing at the poor patrons waiting for
a table in, what must be, the smallest hallway entrance in Phoenix!
Overall, I feel this to be the best fast-food in Phoenix and wouldn't be surprised to
see another location opening soon.
